5 Steps Towards Proper Health & Wellness
06/23/2017
Between juggling papers, exams, extracurricular clubs, and maybe even Greek Life, worrying about your diet and health during college doesn’t exactly fall at the top of the list. Fortunately, most colleges provide health care support and plenty of physical activities to help you maintain a balanced diet and exercise-based daily regime.
Here are 5 great steps to follow for cultivating a fit, healthy college life:
- Learn Portion Size: Dining halls are essentially all-you-can-eat buffets. That amount of food can be incredibly dangerous. It’s hard for us to put down our heels and say no to 3 plates of food when it’s an option to us. To avoid eating too much, keep track of how much you’re eating. Limit it to 1 plate.
- Healthy Snacks: When the dining halls close at night and you’re craving a snack, vending machines can be your worst enemy. Instead, buy healthy snacks from the grocery store twice per month and snack on them instead.
- Drink Moderately: The temptation to indulge in weekly drinking is big at college. Try and set up a schedule for yourself and limit your drinking to 3-nights per week if possible.
- Ride Your Bike: Instead of slowly walking to your classes each day, throw in some bicycling. Bikes are a great way to build in cardio without even realizing it.
- Intramurals: You don’t have to be a star athlete to play sports at college. One way to get motivated for physical activity is to form intramural teams with your roommates and friends at school. Recreational sports are engaging and will help you to even make new friends.
College doesn’t have to be a totally unhealthy experience. Make a commitment to exercise and healthy eating today.
