Four Steps to Picking the Right College
06/19/2017
If you’re one of the students in an enviable position with multiple colleges to pick from for your acceptance, you may be running in circles trying to figure out how to choose the right one. Even if you were accepted to two colleges, how do you decide which one takes the cake? Which things should be prioritized over others? Though we don’t necessary know your career trajectory, we can recommend some basic steps for making the right college selection.
- Initial impressions: Your gut feeling is usually the best feeling you have to reference. Remember back to the first time you visited these college campuses. Think about what your first impression was. This is a powerful way to make the final college decision.
- Priorities: Make a list of your pros and cons for college. Are you someone who wants a parking space? Or do you not want to be more than 200 miles from home? Sit down and make your list. Crosscheck your list with what each university offers.
- Revisit: If you’re really on the fence about which college to pick, put in the miles and go revisit their campuses. Email ahead of time and schedule tours or meet-ups with alumni while you’re there. Really immerse yourself.
- Your Endgame: We know not everyone knows exactly what he or she want to be when they go to college, but it helps if you have somewhat of an endgame in mind. Is graduate school totally out of the question? Do you want to get your PhD? Be a professor? Even if you don’t know your major, you can think about these kinds of end situations.
Don’t feel overwhelmed by your choices! Do your due diligence to make the right decision.
