STOP Procrastinating: 5 Tips for Getting Things Done
07/10/2017
We’ve all been there. We know we need to do something, finish a paper, or take out the garbage, but instead of actually doing it, we do every other thing possible to avoid reality. Procrastinating is a natural human response to things we don’t want to do.
If you’re someone who is a serious victim of procrastination, check out these 5 tips for getting things done immediately:
- Go From Worst to Best: Sit down, look at your list for the day, and tackle the most difficult project first. We only have a limited supply of willpower in a given day. If you save the most difficult chores for the end of the day, chances are you’ll just push the project to the next day instead.
- Divide and Conquer: If a project is just too daunting for you, consider breaking it down into 3 mini-projects. Sometimes, not knowing where to even begin with a project is the ultimate feeling that fuels procrastination. Set aside 3 different times in a day to chip away at the dreaded project.
- Mid-Day Alarms: If you’re someone who needs to monitored, it’s recommended to set a few alarms per day that remind you to reevaluate all that you’ve accomplished. By the time your first alarm goes off, if you haven’t done anything yet, it’s a wake-up call to get moving.
- Timers: There’s an old trick of setting a timer for 10-minutes and seeing how much you can accomplish with a project. The trick is that by the end of the 10-minutes you’re so engrossed with what you’re doing, you won’t want to stop.
- Calendars: For those who need to organize via writing, calendars are a great way to force productivity despite the procrastination urge.
Don’t be another victim of procrastination. Get out in front.
