5 Hard Lessons to Learn in Your 20s
07/17/2017
Your 20s are a time of changes, transitions, ups, and downs. As you get used to the responsibilities that come with being in your 20s, like holding down a job, paying rent, possibly getting engaged, and even starting a family, you’re going to make plenty of mistakes along the way.
Some of these mistakes will have good and bad consequences. However, it’s the natural progression of life making these mistakes, and we’re here to talk about the top 5 hard lessons to learn in your 20s:
- You Might Be Wrong
During our teen years, we are so sure of ourselves that we’re always right and everyone else is wrong. Your worldview when you’re 21 is not going to reflect your worldview at 31. A hard lesson to learn is that you might be really missing the mark.
- Life is Hard
It’s a cliché statement, but it’s mostly true. Your 20s are a shock as to how hard it is. The good news is: by the time you’re out of your 20s, you’re pretty much seasoned for whatever life has in store for you. But, in the mean time, it’s not a fun reality.
- Keep Learning
It’s definitely a good feeling to walk away from college with a diploma in hand. But, the bad news is: you have to always keep learning if you want to be successful. Right now, new businesses, technologies, inventions, and services are being created. You have to keep up with it to stay relevant.
- It’s Lonely at the Top
Post college can be quite shocking for some people. It becomes evident who is moving at what pace, and those that fall behind tend to develop distaste for those who are advancing. It’s lonely at the top holds true. Don’t let it get you down.
- You’re Not Always Right
Your family, partners, and coworkers will grow to resent you if you think you’re always right. Maybe you’re right a majority of the time. Open up yourself to criticism and other viewpoints. You may just learn something along the way.
Those these aren’t the most fun lessons to learn, the sooner you learn them, the sooner your life will open up.
