How to Be Happier in Your 20s

Life in your 20s can be a weird, emotional, and overwhelming rollercoaster. You’re expected to transition from a teen in college to a fully functioning, job-holding adult staring down familial and marriage prospects by the end of your 20s. As a result, a lot of 20-year-olds feel lost and unfortunately, unhappy.

Instead of feeling overwhelmed, there are some tricks and tips to help you feel happier.

Here’s a few ways to be happier throughout your 20s:

 

  • It’s ok to be “broke:” A lot of people in their 20s feel depressed over their financial prospects. It’s important to sit down and remember that you’re not expected to be a millionaire by 30. It’s ok to slow down and enjoy life on the budget you’re on. It’s actually a valuable learning experience for money management throughout your life.
  • Free fun: Not all things in life are expensive. Take advantage of your health and youth and do a lot of hiking and walking. Exploration is technically free on foot, and there’s a lot to be seen right from the sidewalk. Check out Timeout.com for free activities in any given city.
  • Make new friends: The sad reality is that your college friends aren’t always destined to be your life-long friends. Some people get employed much quicker than their friends, and it can drive a wedge. It’s important to befriend people that have the same values and work ethic as yourself.
  • Build a network: You don’t have to do this alone! Build a network that is there to support you. Make sure it’s comprised of family members, friends, and coworkers. That way, when you’re experiencing any kind of dilemma, you’ll have someone to run to. Don’t alienate yourself.

 

You can feel happy and accomplished in your 20s! Don’t sell yourself short.
