Quick Tips For Cleaning Your Social Media
09/22/2017
When Facebook and other social media platforms popped up 10-years ago, people flocked to the sites and filled their profiles with less than professional content. Today, a decade later, this information is still locatable on sites like Facebook, which is thoroughly scraped by employers and colleges before accepting individuals today.
Everyone could stand for a little social media spring cleaning, and here are some quick tips for getting on top of the upkeep:
- Change Your About Description:
Facebook About descriptions carry some outdated and inappropriate information in them for a lot of people today. Whether it’s old “inside jokes,” or false familial relationships with friends, it doesn’t come off as too serious. Go in and give it an overhaul.
- Picture Scraping:
Next, go to photos of yourself and click the left arrow so it brings you to the very first tagged photo on Facebook. Go backwards through your tagged photos and untag yourself in anything incriminating. This is definitely going to take awhile.
- Cover Photos:
People used cover photos as a way to make jokes and be cute and clever when Facebook first introduced them. Go into your cover photos and delete any ones that are not representative of who you are today. There’s no need to let them linger.
- Connection Decluttering:
Try and remove individuals from your social networks that post inappropriate, negative, or controversial topics every day. It will help you avoid the temptation to jump on their conversations. When you comment on a post, all of your Facebook friends can see that post, regardless of their affiliation with the poster.
Though it may take some time, it’s worth it to go through and clean out your social presence today.
